Speech Pathology Consultations

Case History, evaluation of the structure and function of the speech production mechanism, discussion of current challenges, supports and options for management.
-
A personalised plan will be developed in consultation with you. This will be designed to help achieve your individual goals.
-
We offer two standardised treatment approaches for dysarthria – Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT LOUD) and SPEAK OUT! developed by Parkinson Voice Project.
Both of these treatment programs have research demonstrating successful outcomes immediately after therapy and in the long term.
They are both based on motor learning and neuroplasticity principles, including the importance of maximum effort and tasks that are relevant.
Each approach requires an initial intensive treatment program over a 4 week period, with ongoing home practice, check-ups, and regular group attendance (required for SPEAK OUT! optional for LSVT).
Both can potentially be done face to face or via telehealth.
The research tells us that these are the most effective treatments available for people with Parkinson’s, but they are not suitable for everyone.
In some cases, a less intensive approach is required, or specific swallowing management strategies may need to be implemented as a priority. A discussion with your speech pathologist will help determine which approach best suits your needs.
-
Regular check-ups and refreshers are part of the standardised therapy programs offered (LSVT LOUD and SPEAK OUT!).
They are also encouraged for others to keep you on track to reaching your goals and monitor changes over time.
-
Group sessions are currently offered after completion of LSVT and SPEAK OUT! therapy blocks.
